Dr. Kandra L. Jones, Practice Owner
Dr. Kandra Jones was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated from the University of Florida in 1974 and continued her education at Auburn College of Veterinary Medicine where she graduated fourth in her class in 1978. She established Mandarin Veterinary Clinic in 1985. Her pursuit of excellence has placed Mandarin Veterinary Clinic among the top twelve percent of hospitals in the United States certified by the American Animal Hospital Association. Dr. Jones has been on the State of Florida Board of Veterinary Medicine since 1988 and has received the 1st place Regional Dental Awareness Award since 2004.
Dr. Jones's focal interests are in the areas of internal medicine, dermatology, and dentistry. She donates her time to local pet charities. She also participates in spay-neuter programs to control pet over-population as well as heading 2 spay-neuter projects in the country of the Bahamas.
Personally, Dr. Jones enjoys pets at home as much as at her practice. In her spare time she gardens and cares for 5 acres of property. She has been married to Rick Blankenship since 1983. Rick is originally from Fernandina, a Florida State graduate, and CPA. He was appointed Ambassador of the Bahamas in 2001 and returned to Jacksonville after two years of service. He now focuses on investments and property development. Dr. Jones and Rick are currently the proud owners of 4 Chihuahuas, three cats, two flying squirrels, 6 birds, one rat, one nutria, 20 chickens, 2 ducks, and 95 peacocks... better known as "THE ARK" to friends and neighbors!
Jennie Gagnon, Hospital Administrator
Jennie has been working with us since October of 2000. She was born and raised in Ocala and moved to Jacksonville in 1999 to attend the University of North Florida. In 2003, she graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice but decided to stay at Mandarin Veterinary Clinic and follow her passion for animals. Jennie is a proud Navy wife and a devoted mother to her three children Dakota, Connor, and Randie.
Jennie’s areas of responsibility encompass veterinary practice administration, operational plans, training of staff, funds and resource management, data automation, staffing, safety and security, and the review/evaluation/analysis of the past performance of the practice. Jennie strives to effectively use all available resources to provide the best possible patient care to animals treated by the hospital. She understands the critical balance between the administrative and clinical functions in the veterinary health care delivery system and possesses the ability to coordinate and control programs and resources to achieve this balance.
Jennie enjoys camping, fishing, boating, swimming and spending time outdoors with her family. She also enjoys cooking, reading and taking naps! Jennie and her family have an English Pointer, Duke and three cats, Binks, Jabba and Gremlin.
Jackie Fann, Administrative Assistant
Jackie joined Mandarin Veterinary Clinic in June of 2011. Jackie is from San Diego, California. She moved to Jacksonville, Fl. with husband Scott and their three kids, son Adrian and two daughters Gabriella and Samantha. Jackie assists Jennie with all the paperwork and the phone calls that keep the clinic updated. When Jackie is not working she enjoys time with her family often planning weekend trips to Tallahassee, watching sports with her husband “Go Seminoles” she also enjoys shopping, cooking, and crafts.
After a year of working as a receptionist, Jackie was moved to the administrative office. Jackie provides administrative support to the hospital administrator to ensure that the operations are maintained in an effective, up to date, and accurate manner.
Shannon Menke, Lead Nurse
Shannon was born and raised in Edina, Minnesota. In 2004, she made the move to Jacksonville, Florida and started at the University of North Florida. She graduated from UNF in 2007 with a B.A. in Sociology and a minor in Social Welfare. While attending school, she worked as a veterinary technician gaining experience assisting doctors with surgeries, emergency situations, patient exams, laboratory tests and many other aspects of veterinary medicine.
Shannon’s passion has always been working with and helping animals, so in February 2016, she gladly accepted the position as lead nurse at Mandarin Veterinary Clinic. She is ready and eager to assist Dr. Jones and continue her career in the veterinary field.
When not at work, Shannon enjoys spending time with friends, going to the pool, hiking and being outside as much as possible enjoying the Florida sunshine. If not outside, she’s usually enjoying some quiet time watching a movie or reading. She also spends a lot of time cheering on FSU, her favorite team, GO NOLES!! She has 3 four-legged family members at home: Mac, a Lab mix, and two cats Moose and Cleo (aka Kitten).
Kenny Richards, Kennel Manager
Ken was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. After completing high school, he relocated to Jacksonville to be with his family. He is the proud father of a son named Dusty.
In 1992 he applied for a position at Mandarin Veterinary Clinic and fulfilled his lifelong dream of working with animals. He calls himself the “old dog on the block” He has been happily working with Dr. Jones since 1993. Ken is responsible for maintaining our hospital inventory and as the Kennel supervisor, he makes sure our kennels are kept sparkling clean.
When Ken is not working at the hospital, he enjoys boating, watching movies and lying by the pool with a good book! He has two cats, Rere and Lulu.
Amy Edenfield, Assistant Nurse
Amy was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. She grew up with a deep love and understanding of all creatures. With very supportive parents, Amy has had the privilege and experience of caring for a wide variety of animals. They allowed her to bring home and care for frogs, lizards, snakes, rabbits, an abandoned baby flying squirrel, a pot belly pig, hamsters, birds, and of course, cats and dogs. Amy has also been known to foster pets in need of forever homes, including nursing a baby raccoon until it was old enough to be released back into the wild.
Amy began her career in the Veterinary field in 2007, as a full-time kennel technician, then slowly began cross training as a Veterinary Nurse. Working with animals, as her career, has always been a dream of hers. Amy joined the Mandarin Veterinary Clinic team in October of 2016. Amy was very excited to be working alongside such a welcoming and close-knit group of fellow animal lovers.
In her free time, outside of work, Amy enjoys camping, attending music festivals, hula hooping, cooking and spending time with her family. Amy's at home life is full of love and affection from her sweetheart of a dog, Daisy May, and her three cats, Ozzy, Jerry and Fiona.
Bianca Rodriguez, Asst. Nurse/Receptionist
Bianca was born in St. Mary’s, Georgia and later moved to Jacksonville in 2005. She eagerly joined the crew at Mandarin Veterinary Clinic in February 2014. Most of the time, you will see Bianca at the front desk, taking care of both our clients and patients. Bianca enjoys working with animals and is very passionate about helping them, no matter what it takes.
When not working at the clinic, Bianca enjoys spending time with her family. As a new mother to her son Gabriel, born June 2015, she has found a new excitement in life. While it may be challenging, Bianca has certainly found it rewarding. Her household also includes two cats and one dog, who all love to watch Gabriel, but only from a distance.
Away from work, Bianca’s favorite things to do are swim, explore nature trails and take her dog to the beach or park. Any activity involving the great outdoors is exactly what she prefers. When she is not outside, usually due to Florida’s unpredictable weather, you can usually find her reading, surrounded by her baby boy and four-legged friends.
Shannon McLaughlin, Receptionist
Shannon has worked at Mandarin Veterinary clinic since March 2002. She works hard at maintaining the patient files, stocking supplies and ensuring that the pet waiting rooms are clean and comfortable for our four-legged clients.
Shannon has overcome many obstacles in her life, one of which is being born with cerebral palsy. This has not prevented her from achieving many lifelong goals. With the help of her co-workers and job coach, she has realized her primary goal of working with animals.
In addition to working at Mandarin Veterinary Clinic, Shannon also enjoys competitive swimming, karate, YMCA exercise, cheering on the FSU football team and spending time with family and friends.
Lauren McAllister, Receptionist
Lauren was born in Rota, Spain, and traveled back to the US at only 1 month old. In true Navy Brat fashion, she has lived all over, from California to Maine, eventually making Jacksonville her home for the last 15+ years. In 2004, she graduated from Frank H. Peterson Academies of Technology with her Certification in Cosmetology. Not long after graduating, she had her son, Timothy (2004), and graduated early from FSCJ with her A.A. in 2006.
Lauren’s passion has always been ALL things geek and ALL things animals! After working hard in various other fields, she decided to do what would truly make her happy and made the jump into the veterinary field that she has always dreamed of. She joined the Mandarin Veterinary Clinic team in September 2015 and has loved every moment of it since! You can find her greeting both clients and patients, while gushing over how cute, smart and wonderful every pet is.
In her spare time, you can find Lauren at Universal Studios, Orlando, shopping, binge watching her favorite shows or finding some fun to get into with her son. Lauren doesn’t have any cats or dogs (yet!) but she is the proud parent of a Bearded Dragon, Loki, and 3 African Clawed Frogs, Bud, Wise and Er.
Colleen Miller, Groomer
Originally from New York State, Colleen moved to Florida in 1969. She has been grooming since 1971 and joined Mandarin Veterinary Clinic in 1997. Colleen is well known for her show cuts and scissoring techniques. In her off time, she enjoys puzzles, yard work, biking and spending time with her two dogs, Gator and Annie.
